Reborn Doll Bottles With No Hole Nipples - REVIEW
Reborn doll bottles made with no hole nipples seem to be all the rage. The secret is that the nipple hole comes already factory sealed so you don't see a blob of silicone in the tip. The other secret is the one they don't tell you until you find out too late.
I found that out the hard way. This was the first year I made baby bottles to sell where I used the no hole nipple. I shipped about 100 of these bottles and two of the sets were leaking according to my customers. I was really surprised because they are never leaking when we ship them. I honestly couldn't figure out what was wrong.
So, I went back to the ones I had made and double checked them all to make sure I didn't miss anything. Out of the 10 or so sets that I checked, there was one reborn milk bottle that started to leak when I turned it over. I was truly shocked by this because I had never had this problem before. I always check all of my products before they ship and I package them personally.
Of course, I had never used the no hole nipples on a regular basis. Now I know that an occasional leak will occur because some nipples just don't fit right on the bottles, or they might be defective, or the pressures that occur during shipping can cause leaks, but in the reborn doll world, that is something you want to avoid. The goal is to have NO leaks.
So, I forced opened the bottle, took the nipple out, and resealed it with silicone where it fits into the rim on the underside. It was still leaking! I turned the nipple every which way. Then I saw it. There was a channel right at the base of the nipple. At the end of that channel was a little nub like looking piece of silicone. Inside that nub was a tiny tube. That's where the leak was coming from. That was apparently the air hole needed for a real baby to get formula out when sucked on.
I got my tube of silicone out, pressed the silicone down inside the tiny tube, put the lid back on the bottle and voila! no more leaks! I was thrilled, sort of. . . that now meant that my expensive no hole nipples that I wasn't going to have to spend the time and money on sealing with silicone, still needed to be sealed. The nipples are expensive and since I already have to mess with the silicone, it's just easier to do the whole thing myself.
The moral of the story is. . . if you are making your own reborn doll bottle, check the nipples carefully to see if there are any hidden air holes. A good clue is to follow the stream of liquid. It will take you right to it. Just seal it. Let it dry. Then put the lid on and you should be good to go.
I still use the no hole nipples for my reborn bottles from time to time, but they work just as well the old fashioned way. If you want to check out some of my new bottles, please visit my store.
